A derogatory trade term. Describing installer(s) of basic air conditioning split systems.

These types of systems are usually installed in a domestic dwelling and typically comprise one indoor and one outdoor unit, with interconnecting pipes and wiring. The term likely originated from the electrical equivalent known as “house bashing”

It insinuates that specific air conditioning engineers may lack understanding of the principles of refrigeration and other more complicated systems within the sector due to the simplicity and low risk involved with “split bashing” (installing small air conditioning systems).

An experienced “split basher” should be able to complete installation within one day and may see to conduct it with a laid back and optimistic “that’ll do” attitude, utilising only the minimum tools, equipment and effort necessary to get it to work. As a result, a true “bashed split” install may often look untidy or half finished and lack proper pipe and cable management systems.
