Usage Note: Permutations of this root have manifested in contemporary parlance to encompass a wide variety of definitions, often with little or no etymological fidelity to it's natural origin. Terms such as 'skeeny', 'skeenarific' and 'skeenacity' for example, generally connote a vague sense of the favorable or auspicious, whereas the verb to 'skeen' can mean 'to acquire or achieve by disreputable means'.
