Polygyny is a form of Polygamy in which a
man has more than one wife, girlfriend, or female sexual partner. It is the most common and accepted form of Polygamy. Polygyny is usually used in reference to humans but it is observed in all mammals and many other animals.
The main reasons for Polygyny are sexual pleasure, getting more
children, and facilitating power.
Polygyny has been widely practiced and accepted in many cultures. It was very common and accepted in Viking
society. Powerful Viking
men used to have multiple wives, and often several concubines. Vikings would often capture beautiful women from lands that they raided. In fact, a
desperate need to acquire women from conquered lands was the main reason for Viking exploration. Polygyny was common in Mongol
society as
well, and was heavily practiced by Genghis Khan. He had over a dozen wives, and many concubines. These women were a part of his
harem.
Polygyny is very common in many animals such as Gorillas, Tigers, Lions, Elk, and Bison. Males compete against each other to be able to gain exclusive mating access to a group of females. Competition between males is often violent, and bloody (but worth it to get pussy).
Practizing Polygyny is currently legal and pracitzed in many African, and Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Libya.
