When a group of people is used by a politician or political campaign as a prop of sorts to represent or show unlikely supporters. It's tokenism in practice, in the context of politics; a purely, blatantly transparent symbolic effort to include members of minority groups to give the appearance of racial or gender equality within a political party.
Person 1 (watching the latest Trump rally): "Wow, look at all those people wearing a 'Blacks for Trump' shirt... Trump must have a lot of African-American supporters..."
Person 2: "So it seems... But did you notice that every black person at that Trump rally is sitting right behind him? Must be a coincidence."
Person 3: "No, it's not. They're probably polipropping and being used as Trump's token minority supporters."
Person 1 and 2 (deep in thought): "Huh..."
