a antipodean colloquism/derivation of the infamous four letter word describing the horizontal limbo (FUCK). Never used as a 'swear (read=) bad word, but as a descriptive measure of importance/disbelief.

"phark me" is usually uttered when one is told something rather incredulous or considered significant BS.
ie. When Bush says "this is not a B-grade movie re-run "(in reference to 2003 situation in IRAQ) one is entitled to comment
"phark me , whotta lotta shit!"

An alternative to the "f-word" used only around, and in the presence of horses, particularly (but not limited to) at the races. The word was first coined (allegedly) by Dr Aubrey Ping in 1928, when he came up with an awesome name for a famous racehorse at the time (Farlap).

However, Harry Telford insisted that the name needed to have 7 letters, thus changing "Farlap" to "Pharlap". Dr Ping was so pissed, he thought to himself "what the phark?!" before letting Telford know what he thought of the decision, telling him to "phark off!".

So I was walking down a nice country road and my phone rang, I got some bad news and felt the urge to drop the f-bomb, but since I was in the presence of horses I used the alternative word phark instead.
