overcomp

"overcomp" (noted first in 2016, heard in mid-South 'talk shows' and creeping into regional fiction and non-fiction.)

Overcompensating in ones actions, appearance, or purchases to cover insecurity. An example: The under developed guy or gal who buys a large diesel 1 ton truck with full bed and four doors. The fake long horn hood ornament is optional.

Another is replacing stock wheels with ones of the same color or chrome but cost more than $1000 per set.
Example in fiction: "Okay, the 'vette is more than little overcomp by Clarice, she loves being pulled over and having to prove that she's old enough to drive." Matryoschka Girl
