He rose to fame in 2009, after winning the third series of Italian talent show X Factor.1 His debut extended play, Dove si vola, was preceded by the single with the same title, which reached the top spot of the Italian Top Digital Downloads chart and also served as his coronation song.

During the competition he was internally selected by RAI to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, where he will perform "L'essenziale". The song also became the lead single of the album #prontoacorrere, which became his fourth number-one on the Italian Albums Chart.
During his career, Mengoni has received several awards, including two TRL Awards and five Wind Music Awards. In 2010 he also became the first Italian artist to win the MTV Europe Music Award for Best European Act.

Get the mengontol mug.An Italian term meaning outsiders, them, or just non-Italians in general. Not really a derogatory word it really just meant non-Italians mostly without a negative connotation. Used mostly 1940s and 1950s for the Irish, German, Polish, and Jewish.
For me, I am sure that for most second generation Italian-American children who grew up in the '40s and '50s, there was a definite distinction drawn between US and THEM. We were ITALIANS! Everybody else -- the Irish, German, Polish, Jewish - they were the "Medegones (MED-E-GONES)."
