CECA Math 

When Singapore’s Opposition parties were only given a fraction of the politically charged numbers they requested from the government on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), such as the total number of “foreign talents” from India and their family members who are presently working and living in the country, and the number of locals who benefited from the Singapore-India free trade agreement that was signed in 2005.

Singaporeans won’t lose sleep or go on strike because sensitively constipated CECA math statistics aren’t going to come out (until one day when the Opposition wins the hearts of a majority electorate)—99.99% of locals don’t need immigration figures as living proof, because they, their loved ones, or friends had seen or experienced the aftermath of this one-sided deal first-hand.

Naturalized Singaporeans who are often faulted or scapegoated for stealing jobs from locals, especially from retrenched middle-aged university and polytechnic graduates, who now have to work as cab drivers or Grab food delivery riders to make a living— Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) has so far been a one-sided trade agreement whereby India has benefited a thousand times more than Singapore, with tens of thousands of Indian graduates from oft-dubious universities currently working in a hundred-odd industries in the island state.

What percents of Cecaporeans had successfully used their fake degrees to secure employment in the “fine” city of Singapore? How many of them were recruited thanks to cronyism and old boys’ networks?

The Cecanization of Singapore Math 

When the quality of Singapore math textbooks and supplementary titles took a beating in the last one and a half decades, because both local and foreign math editors were reporting to their oft-clueless bosses, who were recruited under the Singapore-India “Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement” (CECA), many of whom with quasi-zero understanding of the Singapore educational system and the local educational publishing industry.

It’s hard to estimate the reputational and economic costs suffered by publishing houses in the aftermath of the Cecanization of Singapore Math: resignation of editors, frustration of authors, rejection of textbooks, brand dilution, and the like.
