Banistan is a slang parable introduced into speech by Russian mercenaries, which implies a veiled distant country (often the "third
world"), where there is a
war, armed conflict or other fighting.
It is used with a subtext when there is no possibility or need for disclosure a specific geographical location. The etymological meaning comes from the word
banana (banana Republic) and the endings "
stan", which are common to some countries and regions of the Middle East Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Dagestan, etc. A parallel is also drawn with a Kalashnikov magazine shape that resembles the shape of a
banana - therefore, in Banistan on clips, and bananocplips.
