Based on one of the default conversations of guards in the game TES V: Skyrim.

If you talk to the guards they say "I was an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee".

And it really gets annoying after playing the game for some time.

So people started coming up with catch phrases like "I used to be <insert something OP here>, but then I took an arrow in the knee."
"I used to be a douche like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.

Get the Arrow in the knee mug.
A phrase that is fairly old but popularized into a meme via the Skyrim quote

"I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee"

It has since found its way into youtube and message boards alike. Where a comment vaguely involving a video on youtube coupled with the phrase "but then I took an arrow to the knee" can attract hundreds of thumbs up.
It has since become more of spam then anything being put everywhere on every video regardless of relation. However it still fits on skyrim videos and is rather funny when paired correctly.
Me: -Browsing youtube-

Me: -reads comments on video about chocolate bar-

Comments: I USED TO EAT CHOCOLATE LIKE YOU BUT THEN I TOOK AN ARROW TO THE KNEE

Me: Okay....

In Nordic/Scandinavian countries, "taking an arrow to the knee" meant that you are getting married/already got married. It refers to when we propose, we fall to one knee, comparing it to when a man gets shot in the leg, he, of course, falls to one knee.
Like most definitions already posted the most popular example comes from Skyrim: "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee". The guards are married, and can't go out adventurer, not crippled.

Get the Arrow to the Knee mug.
Arrow to the knee is kind of a joke that originated from a video game called Skyrim. The line from the game is "I used to be an adventurer like you...then I took an arrow to the knee". Many people like to use the phase "...arrow to the knee" at the end of a sentence to compare themselves to what the person can do, or what they are doing.
Man 1 I used to write like you... until I took an arrow to the knee.
Man 2 What?
Man 1 An arrow to the knee.
Man 2 Sorry to hear that.

1. The proper way to say arrow to the knee. Idk why everybody says arrow TO the knee when he clearly says arrow in the knee.

2. The thing you try to fit in to every website possible.
1. Noob: I was gonna make breakfast, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Me: No! Its arrow IN the knee!

2. I was going to write a definition on urban dictionary, but then I took an arrow in the knee.

Get the Arrow to the Knee mug.
A Skyrim reference. What every person you approach says.

Also, this has become an overdone YouTube comment fad.

To say it, you must say "I used to..." and then finish with, "but then I took an arrow in the knee."
I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee.
