Inspired by the tendency of the typical Essex girl to drop her drawers at any given opportunity and therefore allowing them to rest around her ankles, this term refers to underwear of any type, although is mostly used in reference to thongs.

Girl 1: I'm going out on the lash tonight, I'll need a fresh pair of Essex ankle warmers.
Girl 2: Are you sure it's even worth wearing them?
