whimsigoth

A type of goth in which people of the reddit sub r/goth will have hilarious debates over.
u/realgoth: Dear r/goth, what does whimsigoth mean?

u/gatekeepergoth: It's not a real goth, but just a style of fashion that people who like Stevie Nicks, The Smiths and who watch the film The Craft dress up in. Really, it's purely an aesthetic 90s look which is now popular on tiktok. But it's not really goth and has nothing to do with goth. Because goth is the best and if you say something that isn't really goth than you are wrong and I am right and I will delete your post because I am the best moderator in the world who doesn't have a life and gets off on arguing with people of reddit and I enjoy deleting their non goth posts cause I don't have anything better to do.

whimsigoth

A term used to describe an aesthetic consisting of bohemian elements with spirituality, witchcraft, & celestial imagery. Derived in the 90s, often depicted in pop-culture such as Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Phoebe Buffy from Friends, Lenny Kravitz, & Lisa Bonet. It draws influence from artists such as Stevie Nicks, Mazzy Star, Cocteau Twins, & The Cure. The only “gothic” aspect is the slight & very minimal reminiscence to the Victorian era. As for the fashion, materials such as silk, satin, velvet, sheer, corduroy, leather, & lace play a significant role. Accessorizing with archaic jewelry, hem stones, & DIY pieces are essential to completing the look. What typically differentiates “whimsigoth” from “boho” are the use of jewel tones & celestial memorabilia correspondent to that of a witch.
I’m thinking of going more for a whimsigoth look for the concert tonight.”
