Why Goals Work, W, G, W By providing a target.
That's just one theory of human behavior, developed by Dr. Maxwell Maltz, author of the book; Psycho-Cybernetics, hypothesizes that each individual has a "success mechanism" that is part of the subconscious mind. This success mechanism continually searches for ways to help the individual reach it's targets and resolve problems. The "key" word "resolve," "Reach." People do work and feel better when their success mechanism is fully engaged. Having goals ensures that your target represents what is most important to you. To achieve something worth while you must struggle and fail several times before you reach your target.

Commitment to goals creates a strong sense of purpose, and that's what keeps them going. It has been said that with a big enough "why" can handle almost any "what" or "how."
Goals help us remember why people are faced with adversity.
Not so much dictating priorities, & trivial tasks.
Encouraging goals lessens casual intermediate goals. Builds strategy,as you encounter overcome obstacles and set backs, and learn from mistakes along the way.
Targets do not have to be literal people in between roads to bump over.
"Man is a goal seeking animal. His life has meaning only if he is reaching out and striving for his goals." ~ Aristotle (384-322 BCE)
Coach: This is ("why...") WGW! Would you get to the top of My. Everest by jumping up the mountain or would you walk step by incremental step to mountain top goal?
Team: One foot at a time, jumping and missing with set backs can still move forward step by step!
Coach: Besides if you try to solely jump up Everest you'll run outta breath before you reach your goal to the top.

1. After 6 fishbowls each, Charlene and Betty were sufficiently #wgw.
2. The #wgw stumble out of their apartment into the sunshine. One gestures, two fingers scissoring together. The other hands her a cigarette, and they both stand wordlessly smoking.
