Soogins 

Dirt poor white people that live in the backwoods. Soogins are poorer and less resourceful than Hillbillies, but have a more congenial disposition. This word was used in the first part of the last century by black people from the south when they ran into white people that were poorer than they were.

Man, there are some poor Soogins around here!
