Pilanthropy

Short for “Pi Philanthropy.” A showy donation by a geeky or vanity billionaire to fund pi research, which could inexplicably or allegedly help save planet Earth from extinction, or which would increase the chances of earthlings communicating with extraterrestrials in order to avoid any mishap that could lead into a galactic war.
Bezos and Branson are donating close to half a billion bucks to the Center of Pi Research—doesn’t their pilanthropy sound like some kind of insincere telescopic philanthropy to distract the skeptical public from questioning why both are paying so little tax on the billions they’d amassed during the pandemic?

A psychopath masquerading as a philanthropist.

These wealthy individuals make donations under the guise of contributing to a good cause but are actually investing in their sinister and self-serving agendas.

facebook philanthropist

someone who feels guilty about their affluent lifestyle and their being too busy to really do anything about the plight of the world, so they join all the groups on Facebook like "if 1 million people join this group, I will FedEx a sandwich to a kid in Africa" or "April 23rd, 3:58pm, international minute of silence in solidarity with all the people who couldnt talk for a minute because of fucked up situations". Dont get me wrong, I am all about working for change in the world and giving help to those who need it the most, but come on people, do you really think your Facebook group is going to make that much of a difference?!
Jack was too lazy to attend the food drive so instead he joined 10 more Facebook groups. What a Facebook Philanthropist.

philanthropath

A wealthy person who supposedly makes a philanthropic donation, but does so knowing full well they are actually making an investment into yet another agenda of theirs.

Philanthropy Trolling

Donating to charity for the explicit purpose of embarrassing an acquaintance by associating their name with a ridiculous cause. Especially effective on kickstarter and other named giving platforms.
LOL. I just donated $100 in my boss's name to The HPV and Anal Cancer Foundation. That's some next-level philanthropy trolling.
