NWR, Short for “NOAA Weather Radio”, Is a type of radio that broadcasts frequencies from the WX Band, Also known as Weather Radio Stations for those who do not know about radio transmitters and bands. These radios usually have S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) Decoders. S.A.M.E. Decoders activate radios with SAME Implementation for warnings via information from the tone (Alert Type, Duration, Counties Effected, Sender, Etc.)
Three voices (CRS Tom, CRS Donna, CRS Paul) were on NOAA Weather radio from 2001 to 2016 until they were replaced by the current single voice (BMH/VoiceText New Paul). The three old voices we’re definitely better quality than the new one as they sounded more serious, However, They had to be decommissioned as the voices were getting old and very problematic with what they were programmed to do. The newer voice has had numerous issues, But is also a really good and calming voice, Just like every old one.
Weather radios can be purchased online, Or from your local electronics store. Weather radio sellers widely known are: RadioShack, Midland, Uniden, Eton, SPARC, Sangean, AlertWorks, Sima, And More.
