Modsteader 

One who uses old world homesteading techniques, modern technology, and often up-cycling of discarded items to achieve greater health, and financial independence. Modsteading differs from Homesteading in that it can be practiced on a small scale, in both urban and sub-urban environments, and does not necessarily require that you own your own land.

Did you hear John put Arduino controlled kiddie pool gardens and solar panels on his roof? That guy is such a modsteader.

Modsteading
