Kekcroc

An unlicensed game claimed to have came out for sega genesis in 1993. Kekcroc is one of the most famous lost media hoaxes, although it was obviously a joke. The game's cover art supposedly contains a terrible 3d model of the game's sun-hat-sporting crocodile protagonist, who uses a plunger as a weapon and collects "crocodollars." The fifth level was apparently called "Toasty's Castle", and "Toasty" was supposedly the game's main villain, although his motives are unknown.
There are two very different recreations of Kekcroc out there, including a real yet very unfinished Sega Genesis game that legitimately feels unlicensed and uses graphics from the few screenshots of Kekcroc floating around the web.
There's also another game that Casper the Mario Forever Fan put together, which is a bit too polished and features visual effects that not even official Genesis games use. This one is sometimes referred to as a fangame, and sometimes a recreation.
I loved the part of Kekcroc where he said "It's Kekkin' Time!" and kekked all over those guys.
