A specialised form of welding performed by the artisan Derek ‘Delboy’ of Delboy’s Garage.
The two types of Delding:
-MIG Delding. This involves splattering blobs of birdshit weld somewhere on the work piece. Welder settings do not matter, nor does achieving penetration. The metal may blow through, this does not matter.
The weld is then gouged away using the edge of an “erosion disc”. It doesn’t matter how much weld you remove or how many gouges you make in the metal. This will be corrected in the most important part, filling. Slather on a minimum of 3-5mm of body filler. Ignore the specified amount of hardener. Filler should be the colour of raw salmon and should start hardening within 30 seconds of mixing.
-AlumiDelding.
Use “Alumiweld” brazing rods and a flame. Heat the rods until they drip molten metal on the piece. Use (anything) to spread it around. If the piece you’re AlumiDelding is structural, you can always add some kind of silicone or “Liquid Nails”.
The finishing process is the same as with MIG Delding, but it’s advisable to use more filler as it will be required for structural integrity of the piece.
Finally the piece deserves expert finishing with the finest, cheapest can of black paint you can find. “Tough Black” is the industry standard for Delding.
Apply the paint with reckless abandon, do not worry about the thickness of the coats, nor the amount of dust and debris in the room. Runs, fish eyes and pieces of fluff add an important texture.

I was going to weld up a new subframe but I decided on Delding it instead. I’ve bought some Alumiweld rods and 1kg of body filler, and a cheap clothing rack for the raw material
