When you pretend you thought someone was about hit you, and so pretend to flinch, so that people think they are prone to striking out for no reason. Applies to any behaviour where you act out to produce a fake effect which makes someone you don't like look bad in other peoples eyes.
I stormed off for no reason and everyone assumed Tom said something to me, they totally fell for my airflinch.
