Colombian slang. It derives from the word "compañero" in spanish which translates to buddy or mate.
However it is mostly used as a derogatory adjective for a street person, often associated to a thug or a thief.
Colombian 1: Esconde tu celular. (Hide your cellphone.)
Colombian 2: ¿Por qué? (Why?)
Colombian 1: Hay muchos ñeros por acá y te lo pueden robar. (there are a lot of "ñeros" around here and they'll steal it.)
"Ñero" is a Colombian slang that is used mostly by street person to say "mate" or "buddy", but it can also be a derogatory term against street people. It's like the N-word, you can call your friend "ñero" but if you call someone "ñero" they'll get upset (except it has less "weight" than n-word, they not gonna beat you up but they gonna be upset)
Good way: *your friend* - Que paso ñero? (What's up buddy)
Bad way: *someone* - Ese man es un ñero (That guy is a thug)
