An Indie kid is a middle schooler or high schooler who is an intellectual, deep person who can appreciate art and other things that others may not. And because of this the kid is misunderstood and probably not popular. The word Indie in this context refers to Indie music which is defined by being thought provoking and intelligent but don't be fooled indie is a form of rock and often has electronic influence. Indie kids are most often artistic in one way or another. Wether it be music, drawing, painting or some other form. The Indie kid probably wears dark clothes converse shoes (aka chucks). But the indie kid really does not care what others think of his cloths. At this point you may be getting the Indie Kid Confused with hipsters. The main differences are age(hipsters are between 20 and 30). The other is fashion Hipsters are a lot more vintage with there style. Indies ware converse shoes to but don't let this confuse you. INDIE KIDS ARE A LOT LESS FASHION OBSESSED THAN HIPSTERS ANT INDIES PROBABLY DONT GIVE A SHIT.

Indie kid: Yeah I dont like her either. I really don't pop music, but i see why people can get into it. I don't Know just not for me.

Different individuals, dont try to be the same,very artsy peeps, never too full of ourselves, very friendly, very openminded to many things music, arts, clothing, etc. trendy with an edge different to other cliches, o and we dont try to be cool, we r different thats wat makes us unique but we r not wannabes
neighborhoods in NYC like williamsburg, brooklyn heights, soho, has a lot of indie ppl. the terminology "indie kids" refers to teenagers tho, trust me i am one and im happy

ok so i know there are heaps of definitions on here but they're not all true.
maybe indie kids are interested in indie/alternative music because the lyrics and the songs are more meaningful or they just like them more. but that doesn't mean they spend the whole day online looking for unknown bands
a lot DO wear vintage clothes/acid wash jeans/headbands/... but not ALL.
i'm not saying that if you do you're just fake
but if you don't it doesn't mean you're not indie

Indie kid's are usually well spoken, smart, well educated people.They refuse to wear anything chavvy E.G tracksuits.
They have hair that is so un cared about it looks great, the more appearance caring indie kid may have a side swept fringe though.Waistcoats,drainpipes, converse, badges, printed t-shirts, topman is a good shop for indie kid's.
generally nice,happy people, quick witted, funny and very nice looking.
Bands such as The pidgeon detectives, The Arcade Fire, The waterloos, and some can get away with Hadouken!.

Originally a fairly cool kid, who wore, did and listened to what they pleased. Dressed in anything that looked cool, from skinny jeans to loose jeans, to established branded polo shirts such as lyle and scott to newer fashions such as allsaints or any make that they personally like. Listened to older bands such as the smiths or more recent bands such as KOL or radiohead. Generally they didn't really care about other peoples opinions apart from their friends. However recently the definition has somewhat changed; Indie kids generally try too hard to be "indie" and try to be different, inadvertently becoming the same as other "indies". The new age indie generally waste a lot of time trying to launch hate campaigns emo's on facebook and the internet, bad-mouthing people who have different tatses and styles.
Examples of different attitudes to other people between new age and old age indies:
Indie kid 1: Oh, have you seen those people listening to top 40 and look at their clothes, they have no individuality!
Indie kid 2: I know, why can't everyone be so unique like us!
(Old school) indie kid 1: Hey, there actually seems to be one or two catchy songs with a beat coming out of the top 40 these days!
(Old school) indie kid 2: yeah, admitedly that kid has a fairly cool shirt too!

This is my definition of an Indie Kid, it might not be yours, but in my opinion it fits us perfectly.
Indie Kids are practically hipsters, just not assholes.
You don't have to have hipster-ish characteristics to be an Indie Kid though, you can just be anyone who isnt a prep, or scene kid, or even hipster; Sort of like someone in the middle. I think thats one of the reasons why we are Indie (Independent) kids. Even though i am practically contradicting my previous sentence, practically anyone can be an indie kid, as long as they're cool. By cool i don't mean good looking or popular, i mean cool as in great personality, fun to be around, good friend, etc.
are original, dont conform, be fake , etc.
likes lots of music, not just indie,
even though we are called *Indie* Kids.
I wrote this so people would hear what an indie kid is from an indie kid's own perspective, and not from someone else who hates on us cause they're ignorant and get us mixed up with hipsters.
