Emo is a style of music that is desended from it's early eighties preddecessor known then as "Grunge" with which the genre shares many distinguishing characteristics. Emo is really the new grunge. Nuff said.

A subgenre of punk music that takes influence from hardcore punk, indie rock, and pop-punk. Emo is known for it’s more melancholy sound and sincere lyrics. The name originates from a portmanteau of emotional and hardcore (emocore) which eventually was shortened to emo.
