What's Eating Gilbert Grape

A 1993 film starring Johnny Depp that gave us two key concepts in life:
1.) Reasons for not getting fat.
B.) The boredom and malcontent most young adults feel between the ages of 18 and 24.
In "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," Gilbert (Johnny Depp) displays the extreme boredom of life one can find living in a post high school world in the rural Midwest.

life is what you make it

A cliche of debatable validity.

On one side, this phrase may be seen to be reassuring, allowing a person to accept the ills of their life, whatever those might be, with grace, knowing that with effort, or wisdom, those ills can be surmounted, or even changed into something positive.

On the other side, this meaning can be seen to be irrelevant; the phrase ultimately becomes empty, asking a person to acquiesce to, in the form of the acceptance of "the good with the bad", the ill of the modern world in any or all of its forms.

That's what UR MOM said

A "UR MOM" come-back but more rad. It then continues to "that's what SHE said" if necessary.
boy "I wish I saw you in a thong..."
girl "That's what ur mom said!"
boy "oh my God... Jesus."
girl "That's what SHE said!"
boy "wait, who said it?"
girl "ur mom"

I tell you what

By the use of this phrase to open or close a statement, the user acquires or asserts a pleasant, folksy authority. Sometimes paired with "boy" for added authority and folksiness (see example).

Frequent famous users include Cris Collinsworth and Hank Hill.
"Boy, that was a heck of a down field block by Michael Vick, I tell you what."

"I tell you what, the Seattle Seahawks came here to play tonight."

I am 12 and what is this?

A phrase used to indicate that the user finds someone else's comment, picture or video to be inappropriate or otherwise NSFW.

Rarely used to indicate any actual offense; rather, it's almost always presented as humor or sarcasm, or by trolls trying to stir the pot. Most people tend to report any actual terms of service violations, rather than simply commenting.

Almost never used by actual 12-year-olds, who are technically too young to be on most social media sites anyway.
