tip rat

Noun - name given to a person scavenging for “useful” items at the tip. This meaning does not, as is displayed in other meanings provided here, necessarily have a negative connotation.
When I was offloading at the tip on the weekend, I noticed a tip rat had procured himself a piece of timber he was going to use in a project at home.

As rough as rats

This phrase is generally only used by Cornish (Cornwall, UK) people- Something or someone is said to be “as rough as rats“. Alluring to having an unkept nature about it or them.
Person 1: Alright me fucker, hows you? ("Fucker" used as an affectionate reference to a friend, this is common in Cornwall)
Person 2: As rough as rats. I think I got the dreaded lurgy.
