For all y'all adults out there lol does not mean "lots of love" it means LAUGHING OUT LOUD. So when your mom dies don't send your kids the text: "hey hun grandma just died lol : '(" NOT THAT HARD!!!

LOL is used mostly in the closing of a paragraph .... like, Yours Truly was used by your grandmother.
