Theres not really anything social about social media, if anything, social media encourages people to be distant from each other and in their own little world/bubble. There are people nowadays who won't do anything in life if theres not a picture or video to post and comment about. They live to be seen on social media, YouTube, or reality TV, where everything is staged. What happened to enjoying what you were doing so much at the time that you didnt think to film it, you already missed your opportunity to film it and it didnt matter, you got to be human for a few minutes, you were as close to who you really were as you get, no image. That must have ended in the 90s with VCR's for some people.

Social media provides the illusion of being part of a large network, meanwhile some people are getting rich via this platform. There was a time before social media where people actually knew each other in real life and had actual life experience with the other person, rather than the virtual image of someone on a computer screen.

Social Media Diarrhea

or SMD for short is usually the result of an over zealous individual who attends a class put on by a social media expert & suddenly thinks they are God's gift to Social Media. A day before this class they thought Facebook was a compilation of mug shots from the FBI's Most Wanted List. Now they friend everyone, interject in everyone's conversation with meaningless comments such as "Sounds Good!" or "Ha!". SMD also includes clogging feeds across networks including Twitter & LinkedIn with the same message with auto posts all the while thinking they are building relationships & making connections when in fact they are simply ignoring the crap out of everyone. SMD is common among Realtors & Hobby Business Owners in the Baby Boom Generation.

Damn that Real Estate Agent from the Chamber of Commerce has a real bad case of Social Media Diarrhea she's always clogging my LinkedIn feed & tagging crappy unfocused pictures of me on Facebook. Someone needs to get her some Pepto!

1). A joke used to refer to persons claiming to be experts in the field of social media. The punch-line being that those with enough expertise in the field know it's an impossible field to be an expert of.

2). A self proclaimed title by carpetbaggers and snakeoil salesman to mesmerize unsuspecting people with their recipes of easy "1,2,3" success in Social Media.

1). That guy with hardly any social media experience will call himself an expert.

Social Media Fisherman

A social media fisherman is usually a scammer who posts other people's videos on their social media page and make it out as their own video to gain either popularity or money. The average social media fisherman may boast about their popularity status to make others feel low (When in reality most of them do not really give a shit, only just about how annoying they are) and add extremely cheesy titles on their videos to draw people in (known as click bait) . These people think they are hilarious but are total fuckheads. This is not to be confused with a social media fisherwoman who usually uploads a revealing photo on Facebook for a large amount of likes. Nevertheless, these people are cancerous and should not be on the Internet.

SloFloAntonio, Fortafy, Percy Inglis and Adrian Van Oyen are few of the many examples of Social Media Fisherman who are basically the cancer of either Facebook or Youtube or both.
