Lakos

I am from Greece. I know people named Lakos in Greece, Germany, Netherlands, the USA, the UK, Australia and Canada. In Greek the name Lakos comes from the suffix -lakos, which is part of other names (e.g. Mano-lakos). It means "little," as a term of endearment. For example a mother would call her son Mano(s), "my little Manolakos." So someone who would end up with a name like Manolakos, could easily become Lakos (it's easier to say, and in a lot of rural areas in Greece they "cut" words like that).

There are at least 17 to 26 people named Lakos in Greece.
