To tell someone something disturbing about yourself and , quote on quote, “drowning them” in the truth.
It’s “drowning in smoke” because smoke is viewed as something unhealthy and overall not good.
The fact you’d be saying about yourself would be so disturbing that they would almost die of shock. And since they can’t forget it, it would “drown them”.
