lol (or LOL) is an acronym for "Little Old Lick" which means "I lick little kids" and is extremely inappropriate, and you should not use it in a sentence at all.

a word some people say out loud like 'lol' but they say it as a word, not a 'short for saying' so literally nobody understands them
'lol', 'Tom what are you doing?'

originally an abbreviation for "laughing out loud' some people still use it like this but it has been changed into an awkward convo - space filler or if you're mad at someone but don't want to show it.
"Why would you do that lol." (mad)
{hey beautiful what that mouth do} "lol" (awkward)
What did the traffic light say to the car?- Don't look now. I'm changing. "lol that's a good one" (humor)

When during a serious conversation somebody does or says something (mostly unintentionally) that makes everybody laugh, like tripping/falling in a funny way or making a Freudian slip.
I just talked to my friends and there was a LOL in the conversation when I asked them about the name of a person we just met that day and one of them accidentally said the name of his pet because it sounds similar.

LOL is Short for: Lots of Leather. Normally used in texts when referencing a person heavilly wearing leather. Can sometimes use the word "wearing" without to have to change it to "WLOL".
"Geesh. That guy was wearing LOL what's up with him?"
"Dunno, Probs one of them BDSM types."
2 Sam: "Have you seen Robert?"
Michael "Yeah, but don't go looking for him he is LOL its kinda embarrassing"
