A Ukrainian surname originating back to a small family of rural farmers. Most of the Kotanko family still known to be around today had emigrated to Canada before the fall of the Soviet Union. The majority of known Kotankos reside in Ontario, but some are known to live in British Columbia today, and are all still very in touch with their Ukrainian roots.
