marshmellow barrier

Noun. The line between the layer of melted marshmellow and the rest of the hot chocolate - clearly visible in a clear mug by a marked change in color, but otherwise determined by a sudden and marked change in temperature

Be sure to sip that hot chocolate slowly - if you cross the marshmellow barrier you'll scald all the way back to your tonsils.

Photonic Barrier

A term commonly used in the context of Mil/LEO/Night Vision. Refers to when a light source obscures a person's view due to overexposure, oversaturation, or shadowing.

Also referred to as: "Blooming", "Whiting out", "Glaring out".

Photonic Barriers are not commonly discussed when CQB is brought up. Even though the term is usually associated with Night Vision Use, there are still plenty of scenarios where a Photonic Barrier may affect you without the use of NVG's. knowing what they are and how to work around them may save your life.
