NASCAR Rock

Soft or hard rock usually accompanied by melodramatic lyrics sung in a constipated-sounding voice. Evolving from late 1990s rock singers attempting to spin a sensitive sound into their music to an increasingly, but strangely popular genre, NASCAR Rock can usually be heard on bad pop radio stations, at county fair concerts, motor sports events, or on any angry person's iPod or radio.
If you enjoy listening to Hinder, Nickelback, Saving Abel, or any other overly-dramatic music sung by an angry man that sounds like he recorded the song without taking a crap for two weeks, you enjoy listening to NASCAR Rock.

indie rock

Elitist pop music for people who like to think of themselves as being "artsy" but still want something that adheres to the same general composition formats and harmonic structures of all pop music for the past 70 years, and is sufficiently non-abstract enough to be appreciated without exerting too much intellectual effort.
Indie rock fan: Hey, check out this new vinyl I paid $35 for of the new digitally recorded "Metric" album! They are really pioneering new territory here!

Avant-guard jazz fan: Sigh...

christian rock

Rock music, with lyrics about christianity, Jesus, and God.
It's taking all my willpower to make an unbiased definition about Christian Rock, one of the concepts I hate. No offense, I just don't believe in most of any abrahamic religion or ones dealing with the supernatural. I'm pretty sure the above definition is accurate though.

classic rock

Older rock music, which is technically from the mid-50s to the late 70s, or possibly the early 80s, although some argue that it is any rock more than 10 years old. Also the type of rock music that actually involves musical talent and good singing, as opposed to current rock
The Beatles, the Beach Boys, Elvis, Ray Charles, Righteous Bros, and other classic rock bands/artist... that's what good music is all about!

Progressive Rock

A type of art that is enjoyed by both guys and girls which has long since been forgotten in the public mind since the total commercialization of all music in the 1980s. Further legitimized rock and roll by mixing it with elements of jazz and classical music. However, most progressive rock fans fail to recognize that at the core of all progressive rock is the blues.

Progressive rock was perfected in the 1970s by the Canterbury Scene musicians. Contrary to popular belief, bands such as Dream Theater, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Rush and ELP are not the end-all, be-all of progressive rock.
1. Progressive rock that isn't blues-based is not progressive rock.
2. The Beatles did not invent progressive rock

kick rocks

verb; what one would do after someone were to tell them to "F@#k Off" and their only recourse would be a non-violent display of frustration.

j-rock

An excellent music genre that used to have a humane, mature fanbase only a couple years back. These fans still exist, but most of the fandom has been taken over by anime freaks which has ticked off most original J-rock fans. These anime fans only listen to Dir en grey (actually, some haven't even heard a Dir en grey song in their life) and claim to listen to Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois, just so they can obsess over Mana who they clearly know nothing about (that sucks considerably, as Mana is a great, talented musician, not just a pretty face). They claim to be huge J-rock fans after only naming these three bands, yet have never heard of others like Amadeus, Boom Boom Satellites, Soft Ballet, or Blam Honey.
Another mistake they make is confusing j-pop groups with j-rock..
