Tumblr fanfiction 

A ship fanfiction that twists the character's personalities and/or the source material's plot so much to the point where it's a completely different story just trying to make your "uwu senpai" ship into a thing. A few changes to a fanfiction's story to put it apart from the original wouldn't make it a Tumblr Fanfiction, it's only if it has so many changes that they could literally replace the main characters of it with their own designs and most people wouldn't know that it's based on an existing piece of media. These types of fanfictions are everywhere, trust me, I used to write this type of trash.

Despite the term's name, this isn't just used for actual Tumblr fanfictions. This term is for fanfictions that fit that definition in general. It's named this way because Tumblr fanfictions are stereotyped to be cheesy and bad (they usually are haha).

"This fanfiction is shit. Why is Lilly suddenly interested in John? Didn't she try to murder him in the video game? Also, John is supposed to be an asshole but in this story, he acts like the type of person who cries after swatting a fly." Olivia said as she got off of Wattpad and did something productive with her life.
Ashley giggled. "That sounds like a Tumblr fanfiction to me, I stopped going on Wattpad just because of those things."

Fan fiction categorized by having a story based on another media as a fanfiction, but instead of the story keeping the same basic elements of the official/original media, the elements from the original media are changed completely in order to fit the writer's personal agenda.

These Fan fictions usually appear as stories that have the same characters in name an appearance of the official media, but the characterization is changed completely into something different in order to meet the writer's wants.

For Example:

A Naruto fan fiction that has Orochimaru characterized as a sweet, gentle, kind, and girly man.

SoulEater fanfiction that has Maka characterized as very girly and prissy.

Sonic fanfiction that has Sonic as a jerk.
