emo

soft-edge, acoustic alternative music with emotive (usually male) vocals, modern chord patterns, and lyrics shot through with the eternal themes of love and loss in endless variation. Genre originated by David Gates and Bread in the late 1960's (exs.: "If", "Diary", "Baby, I'm A Want You") but known then as "soft rock."

emo

1. (musical genre) emo music rose form the Washington DC punk scene in the mid 80s. bands were noted for being lighter. Notable to today's definition, bands sang instead of the more aggressive punk branch that would become hard core. Due to its vague definition and use as an insult, many bands that are not self proclaimed emo bands are branded with this title.

2. (lifestyle) This is the more commonly known definition. Emos are often self pitting, and have a negative outlook on life. many emos are compared to "goths". The term is usually used for people who's "depression" is fake and only for attention.
1-examples of early popular emo bands include Sunny Day Real Estate and The Promise Ring

2 "dude is dave depressed? he's been looking sad lately."

"naw dude dave's just being emo. hope he doesn't stay that way..."

Emo

"Emo" is another word for "faggot" in which angsty teens dress up in black and pretend to have it bad while they live in their nice surburban home in a gated community so they can generate attention.

Beyond contrary belief, emos come in two colors: white and pale. Each having to do with how long one is an emo.
Emo: I'm going to bitch and moan about how much my life sucks in this nice surburban home I have, wasting my time complaining instead of doing something constructive while-

Everyone in response: STFU!!!!!!!!!!!!

emo

A person who usually acts depressed, dresses in very tight clothing (i.e, if male retro Vans skate shoes and sometimes womens jeans), listens to indie music, and in quite a few cases has life very good and just looks for something to be depressed about, but usually has no reason to be (or usually just act) depressed. They also usually have hair over one side of their face (see "AFI").
Guy 1. "dude, is he wearing womens jeans?"

Guy 2. "yeah, he's emo, or he thinks he is"
