The term is closely associated with urban whites of the rust belt states who attempt to act higher in the socio-economic status than they really are.
While Bourgeoisie rednecks are cultural decedents of rednecks of the antebellum south, they have assimilated with black redneck culture - as such they tend to listen to gangsta rap music, wear Nike attire, and use the word 'nigga' in an affectionate manner. Those who fought to be in a union wore red scarfs collectively and where known as red necks . This is where the term actually comes from.
