A free thinker, who listens to Metal for what it is, who may or may not choose to accentuate his attire with things associated with metal, may meld into any other music culture/subgenre, as metal does not judge, it simply is, and is awsome. Metal is constantly disputed, what is true metal ect, as much as Goth and punk, metals cousins, but for those who wish to claim to be metal, you better be ready to step up if your metal is challenged.

At British universities, metalheads tend to congregate at so-called "Rocksocs". That is to say, "Rock Societies" or "Rock and Metal Societies".

Get the Metalheadmug. Metalhead: not to be confused with "metal fan", A Metalhead listens to metal that was created out of passion for Metal and the remnants of the culture that was and is. Metalheads despise trends within the genre or when non-metalhead musicians exploit the credit metal has had to try and be cool make money off of it. Metalheads hate bands who; pull stunts&change sounds for money/ripped off metal to be a shade less "emo"/are fuckin pussies and claiming to be tough.
Many Metalheads grew up listening to metal and got into drugs and heavy drinking at a age earlier than most.
Few people that claim to be metalheads are in fact that. The genre has become increasingly watered down with cowardly faggots just seeking a place to fit in and the usual dilluting effect that big buisness has on subcultures. Also metalheads strengh to resist trends and be defiant to resistance/opposition/and have a strong sub culture with litlt to no funding from big business resulted in great pride that could be heard in the genre in the sounds of the 80's and 90's. Unfortunetly the strengh and power of metal was ripped off and exploited my musicians who had no substance of their own, playing their, stagnant, corporation backed genre's that died out with lack of corporate investment. This lead to garbage being released that got called metal just to have credibility. More and more bigger record labels started calling their releases once labelled as hard rock and alternative as metal souring the genre and "cashing in".
"Metalheads" see through the commercial bullshit that Record companies have misrepresnted the genere with. Metalheads only like metal Played by other metalheads because:
- They understand the clash with society
- they are not afraid to oppenly oppose on their sleeve a bullshit religions that were imposed on them from birth.
