He was dressed as the typical nerd - greasy, glasses, red hair and bad taste of clothing. Using Gates as his last name is ofcourse, as far as i can see, a way of associating this person with Bill Gates.

A logic gate is an idealized or physical device implementing a Boolean function, that is, it performs a logical operation on one or more logical inputs, and produces a single logical output.
