A genre of music defined where the musicians could give a shit about being famous and touring Zhakanagistan but would rather just play in the garage. Real Punk Rock is good. Don't confuse Punk Rock with "we won't to get noticed so we're going to call ourself but actually do the exact opposite of" punk. 17 year old boys who dye their hair pink, paint their nails black, and wear girls genes 2 sizes to small are not punk rock either. Anybody who seriously says something along the lines of "Thats so punk rock" definetley don't understand punk rock.

Get the Punk Rockmug. Punk rock was originally about an uncontrollable rage and a rebellion against anything and everything. It got it's name from a music critic that said it reminded him of the 60's music he used to listen to. In the late sixties The Velvet Underground was around. They brought rock and roll back to what it started as. They laid the stones for all future punk and alternative bands. They inspired bands such as Iggy And The Stooges, ? And The Mysterians, The Ramones, New York Dolls, and U2. The Ramones started the punk phenomena. They inspired The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Blondie, Television, and Talking Heads. The Ramones went to England on tour and said it was a freak show with all of the colored hair. While there a bunch of kids appeared and told them that they were the guys that turned them on. Those guys were Johnny Rotten and Joe Strummer. Punk inspired a new genre called hardcore. Hardcore bands included Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, and Bad Brains. Punk almost died in the 80's. It was brought back to life by Green Day, The Offspring, MXPX, Nirvana, and Tripl3 Thr3at.
Punk has been ruined. Now there are many fake punk bands. These are Blink 182, 311, Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, and FM Static.

Get the Punk Rockmug. Punk is some of the greatest music of all time in my opinion. Real punk consists of bands like Minor Threat, Civil Disobedience, Leftover Crack, Bad Brains, A Global Threat, and so much more. (Notice I didn't put the typical Ramones or Sex Pistols because 1. they're not even that great 2. they ain't got shit on most hardcore punk bands out there and 3. they're kind of overrated.) Anyone that wants to say bands like MXPX or Lagwagon (I usually call them pussy punk, but even calling them any kind of punk at all is just insulting to the real deals) are punk deserves to be shot in the back of the fucking head, seriously. Notice that bands like that have a simple band name probably with no meaning behind it and lyrics that appeal to kids 12 and under...douche bag pussies. Bands like Bad Religion and A Global Threat a great meaning behind the title as well as the lyrics that usually have to do with the fucked up society we live in today. People may tell me that punk is dead but you know what? Doesn't mean I still can't like it. AND a lot of old school punk bands are still making great music today, so FUCK YOU! =

Get the Punk Rockmug. A good style of music everyone wants to say they listen to. In the sixties, it was created by revolutionary, much hated bands like the Velvet Underground, the MC5, Iggy and the Stooges and the Monks who didn't give a fuck about whether Lucy was in the sky or not. All of them were censored, viewed as dangerous, and maybe the truest to the punk rock additude of all. In the seventies it exploded into a big underground culture with it's most loved bands, like the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Clash, and other less famous ones. Then, traditional punk stopped doing as much for the kid who had found in it a way to get out of the traps they hated and many of the originals from the '70s got into new versions of it in the '80s like Post Punk and Hardcore. Many people in the '80s underground did new things with punk and were attacked by punks who wanted it all to stay the same. In the '90s, punk of most kinds became acceptable and so lots of suburban kids did one out of three things- the All American boys and girls got into bubblegum punk, the nerdier ones bought Clash T-Shirts because it was dangerous to them, and some grew mohawks and called themselves true punks, even though all of their music was either from the seventies or wanted to be. All three of them have been part of the ruin of punk rock. It seems like there are more "true punks" than anything else here, so here's my message to all of you- you're one the right track, but if you wonder why there hasn't been very much good music since 1977, maybe it's because you've had the chance to make it but you were too busy pretending it was the seventies. Now either do something new with the music or bury it.
Bubblegum punk- Yeah, I saw GC last night, OMG. There was this fight that almost happened, this guy in a scary shirt outside the theater and called them shit, so I went up to him and said- "No their not." I ran away after that, but that was so punk rock!
Nerd punk- No, punk is like these bands you've never heard of, like the Damned. Now they were one of the finest bands to come out of Britain in mid-seventies punk rock
"True" punk- Oh, sure, but were you there? I might not have been, but I can pretend, fuck you I'm punk rock.
