Origin in the early 1980s. To have sex. esp. to finish embarrassingly quickly, ie. premature ejaculation. But a fast finish is not necessary for the word use. Could also be used to describe high speed jack hammering, or "rabbit fucking".
It has since been redefined many times over.

We found them boffing in the bushes behind the school.
