It is not necessarily non-aligned, unaffiliated, or cliquish, but it can be any one or the other depending on the particular political and or social biases and leanings of that particular group and its people.
You and your friends form a small separate group from the greater whole of the community or country, with its own group specific ideals, beliefs, and values.

Political lesbians reject sexual and romantic relationships with men and choose to develop relationships with women instead. They may or may not be sexually attracted to women, and they may or may not engage in sex with women. The concept of political lesbianism originated in the 1970s and '80s. These conflicts often times cause significant delays in passing important pieces of legislation They are often to forward and or their party’s agenda and or as way to get acquire more power and influence when discussing a particular issue.
