pen register

AKA A dialed number recorder (DNR). This device records all numbers dialed from a particular telephone line. For law enforcement agencies to get a pen register approved for surveillance, they must get a court order from a judge. You might have heard this term used on television once or twice.

We need to get a pen register on all the payphones from the low rises, so we can find out who these drug dealers are calling.
