German compliment

A compliment that is actually more of an insult, made by a generally well meaning person, referring to the stereotype of Northen Germans being aloof and unintentionally rude.
Examples of a German compliment could be defined as:
"You smell a lot nicer than usual"

"You looked better with the other haircut. "

"I've seen uglier girls than you."

ninja compliment

When you compliment someone, but it first sounds like an insult, (and probably is). Called a ninja compliment because the compliment is in there, but it's as hard to find as a ninja.
Janet: "You look great now you're not so fat. Before you looked really bad"

Jane: "So, she said I looked really bad before, but I'm better now I'm not so fat."

Jill: "Wow, so a ninja compliment then...."

French compliment

A compliment said reluctantly through gritted teeth. Used by people when they wish to appear as if they genuinely care but secretly have zero interest in the subject. A favoured technique of narcissists to improve their image or hide their short comings at the expense of others.

French compliments can be distinguished from a standard back handed compliment by the use of a false sense of suprise (see example below)

A French compliment often ends in the person giving the compliment obtaining something they did not earn or merit.
The work looks great, I am actually fairly impressed given they have only been in for a couple of months- french compliment
