A staged or contrived "controversy", usually to the end of manipulating the mainstream media for publicity. MTV is often involved.

"Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' was the archetypal contriversy."

"Kanye West is the king of the contriversy, and has parlayed it into a career."

A long, unflattering & shapeless calf-length sweater, usually black and belted. Ubiquitous female wardrobe item in the early 2000s.
