when people dress to avoid mainstream fashion but associate with others who dress with similar intentions. when they congregate in large numbers their alternative appearance becomes the norm.

billy: we should go to that underground club dressed in smart casual.
jim: the club were everyone is dressed crazy to show they don't conform and are hip?
billy: yeah, but they all end up looking the same and negating their wacky fashions.
jim: they're totally altstream.

a kiss is experienced while walking down a street and passing a open shop door emitting cool air conditioner air into the humid surroundings.

louise: why do we have to walk down this street?
william: because the winter kiss from that theatre is the business.
