Satmar

Satmar is a Hasidic dynasty originating from Hungary, founded by rebbe Joel Teitelbaum.
Satmar Jews are fierce anti-Zionists and oppose the creation of the state of Israel.
Satmar is generally considered one of the strictest Haredi sects. Most Satmar Hasidim oppose modern culture and often do not really venture outside of their communities or consume secular media.
A distinguishing custom of the Satmar Hasidim is that women shave their head once they marry and cover their head with a wig or some other covering.
The sect also operates numerous foundations, such as Bikur Cholim (Visiting) the Sick, who helps hospitalized Jews.
Most Satmar communities are in Williamsburg NY and Kiryas Joel.
