Rivers of shit 

Allegorical image used to highlight the decadence and the intrinsic high inefficiency of democratic states, by supporters of lightweight dictatorships. Frequently contraposed to technocracies, that is, forms of government where scientists and engineers (especially males) are the actual decision-makers.

In the fifties, in Singapore you had just rivers of shit, but nowadays everything works like a clockwork.
