The art of derailing a conversation by pretending not to understand even the simplest, most obvious point being made. A classic stevening move involves fixating on a trivial detail, asking needlessly literal questions, or acting confused until the original topic is abandoned altogether. The result is a conversation that becomes stalled, sterile, and impossible to move forward.

Origin (alleged): According to legend, the term comes from a man named Steven, said to represent the archetypal normie whose conversational superpower was turning any interesting discussion into a dead end. While Steven himself may or may not have existed, the behavior certainly does.
“Stop stevening me. You know exactly what I mean.” , “ I wasn’t being unclear, he was just stevening the conversation into oblivion.”
