fire fight 

military slang for a contact or "shoot out" between friendly forces and the enemy. Fire fights can last seconds or hours depending on the situation. British forces are renouned to have the best skills and tactics to winning a fire fight, earning major respect in the international community.
The fire fight between British forces and the Taliban went on for hours in Helmand province.

screw the nut 

British army slang for work harder you bastards.
Used mainly by NCOs at an attempt to get soldiers to work harder or put in a better effort.
After a fair amount of time in the services a soldier will learn that this phrase really means, make it look like im working harder.
Corporal} boys screw the nut else this will get a bit cheeky....cunts.
