A person who enjoys, or takes pleasure, in feeling humiliated. The term is not necessarily sexual.

A person who gains gratification in order to have a happy life by having friends, family, or partner see them beneath them.

"I think James is a masochist."

"I notice he is more happy in life now that we embrace him for being a masochist."

Masochist

Someone who obtains pleasure and gratification in order to be happy in life by being humiliated or mistreated, by his or her friends, family, and partner. Without this the masochist will most times be depressed.

"James is a masochist."

"since we accepted him for being a masochist his depression has went away"
